CURRICULUM AREAS

Learning and Achievement are valued at Bishop Viard College.  We are proud of our academic success and we celebrate the achievements of our students with pride.  We offer subjects that prepare our students for Tertiary education and life beyond school.  We also offer Correspondence courses with teacher support to help extend our curriculum.
We offer a Bishop Viard Achievement Certificate (BVAC) to our Year 9 and 10’s.  This programme enables students to become familiar with the process of gathering credits towards a qualification and be better prepared for Year 11.

The Foundation

The Junior Department aims to develop the whole person.  We believe strongly in achievement.  Students are challenged to be the best versions of themselves and to learn through taking risks and making mistakes.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Religious Education is a very important topic in our college. We are a Catholic college and as such need to learn the Good news and its teachings.

ARTS

The Arts, while important to study for their intrinsic value, also promote skills seen as important in academic and life success!

ENGLISH

English is about connecting with others and their ideas and communicating our own.
English is about exploring our identities and building relationships by finding a voice to tell our stories and developing an ear to hear the stories of others.

MATHEMATICS

Our Science Courses provide a valuable opportunity for our students to learn in a vibrant, supportive and dynamic community, while fostering the flexibility to focus on whatever area most interests them.

MUSIC

In music, students work individually and collaboratively to explore the potential of sounds and technologies for creating, interpreting, and representing music ideas. As they think about and explore innovative sound and media, students have rich opportunities to further their own creative potential.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Project-based and experiential learning are encouraged in all classrooms across our school and, Arts Classes are no exception. We believe in letting students explore each subject matter in a way that makes a lasting impact.

SCIENCE

In Science we deliver a rigorous, standards-based education that supports learners in their sense of wonder, confidence, and engagement with the world.

SOCIAL SCIENCES

In Social Science we aim to help students become active, informed and responsible citizens.

He aha te mea nui o te ao. He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.

TECHNOLOGY

Project-based and experiential learning are encouraged in all classrooms across our school and, Arts Classes are no exception. We believe in letting students explore each subject matter in a way that makes a lasting impact.
