ENROLMENT

To discuss enrolments or to Request an Enrolment Pack please contact the school office office@viard.school.nz

Pre-Enrolment Procedure
As part of the school’s enrolment process, all forms must be signed and received by the school office before an appointment is made. Once the forms are received, an appointment will be made with the Principal or the HOD of Year 7 & 8.

These interviews take place from the middle of Term Three or when the application is received. Parents and the prospective student will attend an interview with the Principal or relevant personnel and following this meeting a letter will be sent to you accepting or declining the enrolment.

Parents/caregivers should complete the enrolment application forms (which are also available from the school office). Please provide as much information as possible, and parents need to attach:
• a copy of their child’s most recent school report;
• either a copy of the child’s birth certificate (if born in NZ) or a copy of their passport and relevant visa/permit (if born outside NZ);
• Catholic Attendance Dues Form signed – you can download it here;
• Preference Certificate (if a Catholic enrolment) signed by your Parish Priest – you can download it here;
• and a signed Enrolment Application Form – you can download it here.

These documents should be submitted to the school as soon as possible.

Our School Enrolment policy:

Each year, Bishop Viard College holds an open evening to introduce prospective parents and students to the school. It is an opportunity to see the school in action.

The school prospectus, including an enrolment form, is provided to all students from our contributing schools.

Students from Catholic families are given preference on the list of applicants for enrolment. Non preference, or non-Catholic, enrolments, are restricted to 5% of the total roll and dependent upon vacancies at the time of enrolment.

All students being considered for enrolment at Bishop Viard College visit the parish priest who determines their eligibility for preference using criteria below. The signed preference form must be brought to the school at enrolment.

b. The Criteria for Preference of Enrolment in Integrated Catholic Schools

  • The child has been baptised or is being prepared for baptism in the Catholic Church.

  • One or both of a child’s non-Catholic parents/guardians is preparing to become a Catholic

  • The child’s parents/guardians have already allowed one or more of its siblings to be baptised in the Catholic faith.

  • At least one parent/guardian is a Catholic, and although their child has not yet been baptised, the child’s participation in the life of the school could lead to the parents having the child baptised.

  • With the agreement of the child’s parent/guardian, a significant familial adult such as a grandparent, aunt or uncle who is actively involved in the child’s upbringing undertakes to support the child’s formation in the faith and practices of the Catholic Church.

2. State integrated schools have places for Non-preference students.

  • Non-Preference places criteria:

    • The applicants accept that they will be attending a school of special character and that their place in the school is conditional on their participation in the programme.

    • The applicants accept that they will be required to pay attendance dues as set by the Proprietor and these are not voluntary.

c. Non-Preference criteria that apply to this school.

  • The siblings of non-preference students already in the school.

  • Non-preference students who cannot enrol immediately may choose to be placed on a waiting list. Students on this list are wait listed by date and number and will be contacted if places become available.

Students are entitled to be enrolled unless they have been indefinitely suspended from another school. In this case, the board of trustees will meet and consider the individual case, and either accept or decline the enrolment.

If a parent wishes to enrol a child with physical disabilities, the school may need to obtain appropriate resources from the Ministry of Education to accommodate them.

Parents are welcome to arrange an appointment to meet the principal.
